Essential Start Program

Objective: To ensure war-affected newcomers have access to the basic necessities required for survival, safety, and integration.

Provides free access to culturally appropriate food, seasonal clothing, hygiene supplies, grocery gift cards, and transit tokens to newcomer individuals and families experiencing poverty during the early stages of resettlement in Canada. Distribution takes place weekly or biweekly in Ottawa using a brief needs-based intake process to ensure dignified and accessible support.

  • Distribution of culturally appropriate food hampers
  • Seasonal clothing and winter survival kits
  • Hygiene essentials (diapers, soap, menstrual products)
